In rural America, wooden barns are becoming a rare fixture throughout the agricultural landscape.
Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I help raze some of these delapidated barns which proudly stood for more than a century. As barter for my labor, I'm permitted to select pieces of dismantled barnwood to use in my art studio.
I select only the barnwood that has a weathered texture pattern, and unique hue. (These pieces have their own character not found anywhere else). The weathering process remains an intrical aspect as to what image I paint on the particular piece of barnwood.
Though it is sometimes a challenge to paint on a barnwood surface with an extremely rough texture, the results can be most satisfying.
